I love this quote from Mother Teresa because every single one of you can apply what Mother Teresa had said to your own life.
In society, there is a “time frame” on when we should accomplish things. For instance, if you are a student in college, you will be graduating in four years. Does it really have to be four years, what if you take your time? Then, there is GPA. I know there are people out there who believe their GPA defines who they are, but that is not true. They even stress out about it and I totally understand. We should not have to worry about these standards society puts down our throats.
According to society, there is also a time frame for when we should get married and start having children. At this stage, we start comparing someone else’s unique story God has written for them to our own. Why do we do that to ourselves? God writes each of our stories differently because He doesn’t want us to be another copy of someone else.
I have discovered that we don’t need to keep up with all of these time frames society wants us to stick to because none of it should define who you are. Mother Teresa had said, “At the end of our lives, we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made or how many great things we have done.” She is saying that once it is time to see Jesus, all of those Earthly items will not matter to Him. Honestly, the things we own are only temporary and we should not let that be our identity. If we could only have one thing to have in our lives, I would choose Jesus every time.
Then, Mother Teresa goes on by saying we will be judged on how well we have trusted God during difficult times. You may be struggling with not having food on the table for your family every week because you cannot afford it. You may even struggle with not having any clothes to wear because again, you cannot afford it. Lastly, you may even be living on the side of the road for every day and night. Do you know what God does with situations like these? He. Will. Provide. Trust me, wherever God takes you, He will provide whatever you need. To the one who isn’t able to provide for your family, God will give you something to eat. To the one who doesn’t have any clothes to wear, God will clothe you. To the one who is living on the streets, God will take you in as His own and will give you a place to stay.
We can also apply Mother Teresa’s quote to our own lives and how we treat other people around us. When you see someone in need of food, do you give them something to eat? Have you seen someone who would wear the same outfit every day because they literally have nothing to wear? Do you take the time to donate some clothes to them? Have you seen someone who does not have a home, so do you give them a place to stay?
This all matters to God. When you see someone in need, you should help them because you never know when God is using you to be a blessing to that family or an individuals life.
