This is such a sensitive topic to talk about, but the topic about addiction came to me and I felt the need to do an Open Letter about it. Yes, we are starting off the month of March right by doing an Open Letter! Who else loves these? I know I do!

1 Corinthians 10 starts off by giving us an example of what happened to our ancestors.

“They were all under the cloud, and they all went through the sea. They were all baptized as followers of Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food. And they all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from that spiritual rock that was with them. That rock was Christ.” -1 Corinthians 10:1-4

What does this mean?? God wasn’t happy with the followers of Moses and they ended up dying in the desert. They all wanted evil things and was tempted by God. Some of them “worshipped idols” and I want to stop right there for a second…

I love how the Bible points out how we should “stay away from worshipping idols” (1 Corinthians 10:14). Today, we have our favorite celebrities, Youtubers, actresses, you name it. Don’t we look up to them as our role models? What if they aren’t the best role models to look up to? Do we dress like how they dress or buy products they use just because they use it? Sometimes those people who are everywhere in the Media, may not be the best for us. It is honestly crazy how much we are tempted to do things only because someone who is in the spotlight is doing whatever it is. 1 Corinthians 10:20-21 says, “But I say that what is sacrificed to idols is offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to share anything with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons, too. (I love this next part!) You cannot share in the Lord’s table and the table of demons, too.”

Wow, that is mind-blowing! We can’t be on God’s side and satan’s, too. Yes, we are all nowhere near perfect and we all sin. We all make mistakes. God knows how much you can be tempted before you start to give in. He knows your weaknesses. What are you going to do about it?

Honestly, we all have temptations and hear this small voice saying, “Come on just do it, it’s not going to do any harm.” We believe that voice, don’t we? Do you know what? The small voice we hear isn’t God’s; it’s satan and he is the one who tries to tempt us into doing things that God doesn’t want for us. We’re worth so much more to God that He doesn’t want to hurt us. God actually has an escape plan for each of us when we have hit rock bottom from a temptation. I can hear Him saying, “My Child, You have been through enough and you never once gave up from this temptation. You’re a fighter and do you know what? You have suffered enough and there is going to be a huge blessing coming your way that will change your life forever. I am breaking away your chains, you’re free from it.” Doesn’t that feel comforting to hear?

I want you to know that whatever you’re going through, God’s got this and He will lead you through it. If you are struggling with some sort of addiction right now, this Open Letter is for you. Let’s get into it.

You may even be addicted to smoking and you don’t want to ever stop…

You may even be addicted to watching Netflix or YouTube for hours to waste your life away…

You may love food to the point you can’t make yourself stop eating…

You may have an obsession over sports where you have to watch the game and all of a sudden your entire life stops…

You may love listening to gossip and you always want to hear the latest drama…

Honestly, there are so many things you can be addicted to.

Let’s face it, we all have temptations.

Your addiction,

Obsession,

Fears,

The walls you put up.

You will be free again.

Please don’t give up.

God will save you from your temptation.

God says, Thy Will be Done.

My Sweet friend, you’re a fighter.

You will get through this.

Satan won’t know what’s coming.

You will be free from him.

My Sweet friend, God always has a reason for your pain.

He knows.

He believe in you.

When you find the time, please listen to “Maybe It’s Ok” by We Are Messengers. I encourage everyone to listen to it.

“Maybe it’s ok if I’m not ok ’cause the One who holds the world is holding onto me. Maybe it’s all right if I’m not all right ’cause the One who holds the stars is holding my whole life. Father, let Your kingdom come. let Your will be done.”

  1. Kylie this is a great post. About idols, it’s one thing for us to like someone, to have those to have a healthy role model, but we’ve become a people who worship people. Look what it’s done! People kill themselves because they don’t think they measure up and we take sides with celebrities. The entertainment industry has become a tool.

I’ve been through many addictions. I come from a long line of addicts. But first, we’ve got to want to be free. We have to be willing to truly let go. And we have to pray with a sincere heart and mean business with God to be delivered. It’s that hand in the cookie jar thing. We can’t reach out to God if we’re holding on to the cookie in the jar. We have to let go!
